Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in Microsoft Word or RTF format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 11-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses).
  • Illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end; references are written in a separate section at the end of the paper (even when they are written in footnotes).
  • "The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.

  • If the paper was written within a project financed by the Serbian Ministry of Science, both the title and ID of the project is stated in the paper under Acknowledgements.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR AUTHORS

General information

“EDUCATION AND RESEARCH IN HEALTH SCIENCES” (ERHS) is a peer-reviewed journal issued by the Academy of Applied Studies Belgrade – College of Health Sciences and Faculty of Medical Sciences University of Kragujevac. It is issued in electronic form, and it is dedicated to publishing papers in the fields of health sciences and higher education in health sciences. The journal is to publish the following categories of papers: original scientific papers, professional papers, case reports, review papers, previous presentations, book reviews and other (scientific and previous presentations at conferences, abstracts, etc.). These categories are defined in accordance with the Rulebook of Categorization and Ranking of Scientific Papers (Official Gazette RS 159/20). The journal is published biannually.

General guidelines

The journal “Education and Research in Health Sciences’’ (ERHS) publishes papers in Serbian and English language which have not been previously published or submitted.  Any attempt at plagiarism or self-plagiarism is unacceptable. The authors are fully responsible for the content of the submitted paper as well as the validity of the results they want to publish. If there are third partied involved in the research, the authors are to obtain their consent for the publication of the data. If the paper contains photos or parts of texts previously published, the authors are to obtain the copyright’s consent and to submit the proof of it along with the paper. Content without such consent will be considered as original work of the author. The category of submitted paper is suggested by the author and the final category is approved by the editorial board of the journal, based primarily on the reviewers’ evaluation.

Copyright

Authors maintain their copyrights and they give non-exclusive licence to the publisher to publish the paper and to be cited as the first publisher in case of further use of the paper.   “Education and Research in Health Science’’ journal has open access. The whole content is available to the readers for free. Readers can read, download, copy, distribute, print, search the full text as well as link it without prior consent of the authors or publisher. The right to use the content of the journal without written consent does not diminish the reader’s obligation to cite the journal and its content.

 

Necessary technical and other guidelines 

Authors are obliged to follow certain technical guidelines given in the text bellow. Manuscripts disregarding these guidelines will not be taken into consideration.  

The manuscript should be saved as a Word for Windows file, formatted to A4 paper size, with single line spacing including the references, tables, picture description and footnotes. Margins should be set to 2 or 2.5 cm, font is Times New Roman, size 12 for the title and size 11 for headings and text. Italics should be used for emphasis, not underlining (except for the URL address). All pages should be numbered in the order, starting from the title page. The manuscript of the original paper should be organized in the following manner:  title page in Serbian, abstract in Serbian, title page in English, abstract in English, introduction, participants and methods/materials and methods, results, discussion, and conclusion. Section regarding possible conflict of interests should be added after the conclusion. Each section of the paper (title, abstract, introduction, etc.) should start on a separate page. All pages are to be numbered in sequence starting from the title page.

The authors are advised to save copies of their manuscripts as ERHS takes no responsibility for the possible loss during submission.

Manuscript length

The total length of the manuscript, including the title page, abstracts in English and Serbian, list of references and all annexes should be between 5,000 and 8,000 words. All measures, except blood pressure measures, should be stated in the international SI units and, if necessary, also in conventional units given in brackets. Generic names are to be used for medications while registered trademarks can be given in brackets.

Title page

The title page should contain the title of the paper, full surnames and names of all authors, as well as their affiliations. The names of authors are to be connected to their affiliations by indexed numbers. If needed, gratitude statements can also be included in the title page. If the paper is part of the project of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development, the title of the project is to be stated in the bottom right corner of the title page. The name, address and phone number of the corresponding author are given in the far bottom right corner.

The title of the paper should be clear and concise and should not exceed twelve words. The subtitle can be added if needed. The list of abbreviations if used in the paper should be given in the alphabetical order along with the explanations. Use of abbreviations is not recommended unless utterly necessary.

Abstract page with abstracts in Serbian and English languages

Abstracts should be between 150 and 250 words long. The abstract structure should present original scientific and professional papers and consist of introduction, objectives, methods (participants and methods/material and methods), results and conclusion. Reviews have abstracts as one paragraph. Abstracts should not contain citations or abbreviations.

Three to eight key words are given at the end of the abstract.

Introduction page

The introduction should be clear, concise, and directly connected to the research and consist of the objectives of the paper. In the beginning, relevant information is stated regarding the issues considered in the paper and the current research revelations along with the unknown, lesser-known facts or controversial data. The aim of the research is stated here.

Participants and methods/material and methods

The selection of human subjects or tested animals should be described. The names of people should not be used. The methods are to be described with sufficient details so that other researchers could evaluate and repeat the research. In case of human subjects testing, Author’s Statement should confirm that the research was conducted in line with moral standards and principles stipulated in the Declaration of Helsinki. If the research included animal testing, it is to be confirmed that they were treated in accordance with the accepted standards.

Statistical methods used in the result analysis are to be stated in this section.

Results

Results should be clear and concise, including the minimal number of tables and pictures needed for good presentation. Illustrations, pictures and figures are part of this section, and they are placed in the adequate position within the text. Pictures and schematic illustrations are given as .jpg or .tiff files. All information in the schematic illustration use font Times New Roman, size 10. Abbreviations used are to be explained in the description below. Pictures previously published should have the exact source, gratitude to the author (on the title page) along with the written consent of the copyright holder to use the pictures.

Discussion

Literature review should not be too extensive. Main results of the research are to be discussed and their link with results published in other papers. The differences between these results are to be stated.

References

References are cited in accordance with Vancouver style sheet (uniformed requests for manuscripts submitted to biomedical journals), defined by the International Committee of Medical Journals Editors (http://www.icmje.org). Citing references must comply with this standard as it is one of the most important factors for indexing scholar journals. Every reference should contain DOI number if available and PMID number if it is in the PubMed/MEDLINE database. References are to be numbered in the sequence they appear in the text. The number of references should not exceed 30, except in the literature review, which can contain up to 50, and in case of meta-analysis up to 100.

Authors’ Statement (Submission Letter)

The statement is the authors’ confirmation that: all technical requests are fulfilled; the paper has not been previously published or accepted for publication in any other journal or simultaneously submitted at any other journal; there is no conflict of interest which might compromise the integrity of the paper and authenticity of its results; authors grant the publisher non-exclusive licence; the paper is neither a result of plagiarism nor self-plagiarism; the testing on humans (if applicable) was conducted in line with moral standards and the Declaration of Helsinki; the animal testing (if applicable) was conducted in accordance with accepted standards; authors have obtained consent from copyright holders for using all quotes and other protected material; the paper lists all sources used.

Authors’ Statement signed by all authors is to be scanned and submitted as additional file.

NB

Manuscripts that do not comply with these guidelines cannot be sent for review and will be returned to the authors for corrections.

Upon submission, manuscripts are checked if they abide by the main guidelines and standards. After that, manuscripts are checked for plagiarism and sent for peer-review.
