Author Guidelines

We invite authors to submit original research, reviews, case reports, and other scholarly articles relevant to the medical field. To ensure your manuscript is considered for publication, please adhere to the following guidelines.

1.      Manuscript Types

We accept several types of submissions.

a)      Original Research Articles should report novel findings and include an abstract. These articles should not exceed 3,500 words, and while there is no limit on the number of references, we recommend including no more than 50.

b)      Review Articles should provide a comprehensive, balanced, and fully referenced analysis of existing literature. These articles may be up to 8,000 words, with no formal reference limit, but we advise against exceeding 50 references.

c)      Case Reports should describe conditions that offer new insights, rare but modifiable disorders, or present innovative treatments. These submissions should be no longer than 1,500 words and include up to 10 references.

d)     Editorials may discuss significant topics on which the author wishes to express an informed opinion. Editorials should be no longer than 3,000 words, and while there is no set limit for references, we recommend keeping them under 30.

e)      Letters to the Editor should be concise, limited to 1,500 words, and accompanied by no more than 15 references and a single table or figure.

f)       Seminars in Medicine are invited contributions from experts, focusing on recent advancements, clinical updates, or interdisciplinary perspectives within a specific field of medicine. These manuscripts should be no longer than 4,000 words, number of references should not exceed 40, and the inclusion of illustrative figures or tables is encouraged.

2.      Manuscript Preparation

Manuscripts should be prepared in Microsoft Word format. Use Times New Roman, 12-point font, and double-spacing throughout the document, with 2.54 cm margins on all sides. Page numbers should be placed in the bottom-right corner.

a)      The title page should include the manuscript title in both English and Serbian, along with the full names and affiliations of all authors. Corresponding author contact information, including email and telephone, should be provided, along with the manuscript's word count.

b)      An abstract is required for all submissions and should be written in both English and Serbian. For original research, the abstract must follow a structured format, including sections for Introduction, Methods, Results, and Conclusion, and should not exceed 250 words.

c)      Keywords should be relevant to their article. Authors should also provide 3-6 keyword and these keywords may be adjusted to align with Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) standards.

d)     The main text of the manuscript should be structured with the following sections: Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, and Conclusion. This format follows the IMRAD (Introduction, Methods, Results, and Discussion) style commonly used for research articles.

e) References should follow the Vancouver citation style https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vancouver_system. Whenever possible, include DOIs for referenced articles. Citations should be numbered consecutively in the order in which they appear in the text.

f)       Tables and figures should be submitted at the end of the manuscript or as separate files. We recommend limiting the number of tables and figures to six. Each table and figure should include appropriate titles and legends, with numbering consistent with the order in which they appear in the text. Figures should be of high resolution (minimum 300 dpi). If any table, graph, scheme, or figure has been previously published, the original source must be acknowledged, and written permission from the copyright holder must be submitted. Please note that while attachments will appear in color in the online edition, the printed edition will display them in black and white unless authors request color printing, which incurs additional costs.

g)      Non-standard abbreviations should be explained in footnotes using standard symbols (e.g., *, †, ‡).

3.      Ethical Considerations

All submissions must adhere to ethical guidelines for research. Research involving human subjects requires approval from an Institutional Review Board (IRB) or an Ethics Committee. Authors are also required to declare any conflicts of interest. For case reports or studies involving human subjects, informed consent must be obtained from participants.

4.      Submission Process

Manuscripts must be submitted electronically through our online submission system at http://aseestant.ceon.rs/index.php/medpreg/.  The corresponding author should create an account http://aseestant.ceon.rs/index.php/medpreg/user/register, complete the required fields, and upload the manuscript.

5.      Peer Review Process

All submitted manuscripts undergo a double-blind peer review process. Authors can expect to receive initial feedback within 4-6 weeks. Reviewers will provide recommendations for revisions or acceptance, based on a detailed assessment of the manuscript.

6.      Revised Manuscripts

If revisions are requested, the revised manuscript should be submitted through the same submission system. Authors must include a detailed response to reviewers' comments and clearly highlight changes made in the manuscript.

7.      Plagiarism and AI use

We maintain a strict policy against plagiarism. Authors are responsible for checking their manuscripts for plagiarism before submission. The journal uses plagiarism detection tools and requires that the similarity index (SI) must not exceed 12%. If the SI falls between 13% and 30%, authors will be asked to revise the manuscript. In cases of suspected plagiarism, we follow the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

Regarding AI use, authors are not required to disclose the use of AI tools for text editing. This refers to improvements in readability, grammar, spelling, and style, but does not include autonomous content generation. Human oversight is required to ensure the final text accurately reflects the authors' original work.

8.      Multiple Submissions

A supplementary file must be included with the manuscript, containing a statement that the paper has not been submitted or accepted for publication elsewhere. This file must also include a consent form signed by all authors. Authors are not permitted to submit the same manuscript to multiple journals simultaneously. If this occurs, the Editor reserves the right to reject the paper and notify the other journal(s) and/or the authors' affiliated institutions.

9.      Publication Fees

For the manuscript to be published, all authors must hold an active, paid annual subscription to Medicinski pregled.

10.  Contact Information

For any questions regarding the submission process, please contact the editorial office at email redakcija@medicinskipregled.rs or call phone number 021/521-096 and 0638133875.
