Balkanski sindrom 20 godina posle NATO agresije

Sažetak


Pitanje da li osiromašeni uranijum (OU) izaziva kancer ili ne postalo je značajno i poprilično kontroverzno kako u naučnim istraživanjima, tako i u javnom diskursu. U Republici Srbiji ovo pitanje dobilo je na značaju zbog porasta broja novoobolelih i umrlih od malignih oboljenja posle NATO agresije 1999. godine i korišćenja municije sa OU. Ujedno, obolevanje od karcinoma stranog vojnog osoblja angažovanog na čišćenju kontaminiranih terena dovelo je do razvoja termina balkanski sindrom. Pored zdravstvenih posledica kancera, značajne su i društvene i ekonomske posledice u svim državama, a naročito u onima sa tranzicionom ekonomijom kako zbog troškova lečenja, tako i zbog gubitka produktivnosti usled morbiditeta i mortaliteta. Stoga je glavni cilj rada pregled dosadašnjih istraživanja o negativnom uticaju OU na zdravlje i o socioekonomskim posledicama kancera, naročito u Srbiji. Ujedno, cilj rada je i podsticanje ozbiljnih i objektivnih istraživanja o uticaju OU na zdravlje, kao i isticanje neraskidive veze između javnog zdravlja i bezbednosti, odnosno neophodnosti da se javno zdravlje posmatra kroz prizmu nacionalne bezbednosti.
