Abstract

Burns are one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality in children. In order to reduce the side effects of burns, it is necessary to timely and adequately assess the degree of damage in the pediatric patients. This has proven to be useful in defining therapeutic procedures in children with this clinical condition. Adequate fluid replacement, relief of pain and anxiety, as well as other supportive therapy can significantly reduce the risk of mortality. The goal of this review is in better understanding of pathophysiological changes and assessment of severity of burn injury in pediatric patients, which may help in early implementation of appropriate therapeutic procedures and improvement of outcome of these patients.
