Pol ima ključnu ulogu u oblikovanju dinamike kriminalnog ponašanja i njegove pojavnosti u društvu. Dok je proučavanje recidivizma često fokusirano na opšte trendove i faktore rizika, razumevanje načina na koji pol utiče na te obrasce pruža dublji uvid u strategije prevencije i rehabilitacije.

Ovaj članak bavi se polnim razlikama u kriminalnom ponašanju i recidivizmu kroz opsežan pregled postojeće literature, empirijske analize podataka o recidivizmu i kvalitativne uvide unutar kaznenopravnog sistema. Također, daje pregled relevantne literature, sintetizirajući teorijske perspektive i empirijske nalaze o polnim razlikama u kriminalnom ponašanju.

Razumevanje staza do recidivizma zahteva razmatranje jedinstvenih izazova s ​​kojima se suočavaju počinitelji nakon izlaska iz zatvora. Za muškarce recidivizam često proizlazi iz faktora kao što su uticaj vršnjaka, zloupotreba supstanci i teškoće u pronalaženju stabilnog zaposlenja, dok je verojatnije da će se kod žena recidivizam javiti zbog problema kao što su poremećaji povezani s traumom, nedostatak socijalne podrške i ograničen pristup resursima za lečenje mentalnog zdravlja ili stambenog zbrinjavanja.
