Abstract

Objective:

The aim of our study was to establish correlation between pseudoexfoliation and its systemic manifestation.

Findings:

Pseudoexfoliation syndrome is an age related systemic disorder with overproduction and accumulation of the pseudoexfoliation material in visceral organs and in the eye. Many vascular diseases are in tight junction with pseudoexfoliation manifestation. Arterial hypertension was equally represented in all selected groups. Our results indicated for statistical significant differences in the number of patients with ischemic cardiac disease, cerebrovascular disease, presence of aortal aneurism or sensoneurial hear loss in PEX group (syndrome or glaucoma) in comparison with patients in control group. There were no statistical significant differences between two subgroups of PEX group (syndrome, glaucoma). This result indicated that the main risk for systemic manifestation is PEX presence. Other ocular and vascular complications are PEX consequences.

Conclusion:

Pseudoexfoliation is in tight relation with systemic vascular disturbances. Patients with PXS must be detailed examined by specialist of internal disease or neurologist. Those recommended examination can be helpful in prevention of hard vascular disease of the patients with PEX, especially with early stage.
