Abstract

The scholarly sources have not analyzed different legal regimes of public information in the Republic of Serbia or differences between the existing media. In positive legal terms, the media differ by legal regime of structure, activities and control, as well as by public information activities that they carry out. The media are subjects of territorial community and are in obligation to broadcast program content in an objective, impartial and truthful manner. Consequently, all media, including commercial ones, primarily aim at accomplishing general and public interests. The only difference between the media is the content of the public interest. The greatest impact in the legal order of a state is attributed to electronic media, especially to televisions with state (national) coverage, as media which should accomplish special goals in the field of public information. Televisions with state coverage that primarily aim at realizing general interests are bounded by special content of the public interest and thus have more duties compared to other televisions which is, unfortunately, not in concordance with the current circumstances in the field of public information in the Republic of Serbia.
