Abstract

The paper is entirely dedicated to the way of perceiving the concepts of God, religion and death in the essays and novels of the Argentine writer Ernestо Sabato. The paper tries to point out how the relationship with God can be defined in Sabbatto's biography, as well as in his essays and novels. The introduction provides basic biographical data with an emphasis on two events that marked the last decades of Sabato's life. The issues of Sabato's perception of God, religion and death and the possibility of Sabato's declaration in a religious sense are discussed. In the central part, the research of Sabatto's attitude towards the mentioned concepts was conducted on the examples of the collection of essays "One and the Universe", then the essays "Before the End" and "Resistance", and the novels: "The Tunnel" and "On Heroes and Tombs". It was concluded that Sabato's relationship with God varied in different periods of life and from work to work depending on life circumstances in which he lived and created.
