Correlation between Parental Permissions for Physical Activity and Motor Development in Children aged 3-5 Years
Abstract
The main aim of our study was to examine influence of parental permissions regarding free physical activity on children`s motor ability. Different aspects of motor development were measured in 24 children aged 3 to 5 years. Parental permissions were assessed by specially design questionnaire filled by for parents.
Results showed significant correlations between parental permissions and child motor skills. Permissions were related mostly with manual precision and coordination, then with fine motoric skills and coordination of upper body, while there was no correlation with balance. Additionally, we found that this strong relationship emerges at 4 and 5 years of age, while at the age of three it is not documented. Our results emphasize on strong effect of parental permissions on child motor development.
