SPECIFICS OF SUSTAINABLE TOURISM PLANNING
Abstract
Sustainable tourism development requires a process of planning and management that will unite the interests of various stakeholders in a sustainable and strategic way. It seeks an understanding of the meaning of sustainable development and guiding values for promoting sustainable tourism. It points to the importance of cross-sector partnerships and the roles of different stakeholders in the planning of sustainable tourism. Special importance is given to the community of which requires a willingness to understand the impacts of tourism industry, as well as various processes to engage in participatory planning, consensus building and conflict resolution among all stakeholders. The article also highlights the importance of evaluating performance in achieving sustainable practice in tourism planning and addressing future challenges and issues associated with how planning can contribute to the achievement of sustainable tourism development.
