History of the journal

"Acta herbologica" is the legacy of the journal "Fragmenta herbologica" of the former Weed Science Society of Yugoslavia. In 1992, the Weed Science Society of Serbia was founded, which assumed all the rights and obligations of the Weed Science Society of Yugoslavia, as well as the journal, which changed its name to "Acta herbologica". The journal is published twice per year and so far 31 volumes and 61 issues, i.e. over 360 scientific papers, have been published. The first Editor of the journal Acta herbologica was prof. Momčilo Kojić (1992-2007), the second was academician Vaskrsija Janić (2008-2016), and since 2017, prof. Sava Vrbničanin, as well as the Editors of the area for biology and ecology of weeds, prof. Ljiljana Nikolić and Vaskrsije Janjić for the field of weed management, who was replaced by Dr. Ljiljana Radivojević from 2021. From  2023, the positions of editors of the area for biology and ecology of weeds, and the area for weed control have been decleaned. In addition to the Serbian language, papers may be published in the English at the author's choice. Following the example of some eminent scientific journals, since 2017, a review paper dedicated to an economically important weed species or other current topic has been published in each issue of the journal at the suggestion of the Editorial Committee.
